• First, copy all the files you want to delete from your camera’s SD card to the computer. This will serve as backup for the next time you need them.
• Make sure that the SD card is installed in the camera. You can check again so it is properly installed.
• After checking, press the Menu button on the camera to remove it from Sleep mode. This will wake it.
• When the camera comes up, press the Menu button behind it repeatedly until it brings out a “Delete File” option.
• You can use the “Shutter” button on the top to select which file you wish to delete.

The models mentioned above of the GoPro HERO are also newer and have different methods for deleting files on them. To delete files on these models, follow the procedure below;

• First of all, ensure you copy the files from the camera’s SD card to the computer.
• Also, make sure the SD card is installed in the camera. You should install the SD card in the camera before anything.
• After installation, start the camera.
• Swipe down on the touchscreen of your camera.
• Select “Preferences“.
• In the new window, scroll to the bottom and select “Format SD Card.“
• Click “Delete” to confirm, and your files will be deleted.

 How to delete files on the latest GoPro HERO models 

The latest models of GoPro HERO include;

• HERO10 Black.
• HERO9 Black.

• HERO7 Black.
• HERO7 Silver.
• HERO7 White.

The models mentioned above are the latest, and you can quickly delete files from them too. To do so, follow the procedure below;

• As usual, copy the required files to the computer from the camera’s SD card.

• After installation, start the camera.
• These models are also touch-sensitive so that you can control them with touches.
• Swipe down on the touchscreen on other models except for HERO9/10 Black. For HERO9/10 Black, swipe down then left.
• Select “Preferences“.
• On the new window, scroll to the bottom and click “Reset.“
• A pop-up menu will appear; select “Format SD Card.”
• You will be asked to confirm by pressing “Format” on the next screen.

By doing this, you are formatting the micro SD card and deleting all its contents, including files, photos, and videos. You can never recover them back.

 Why Can’t I Delete files In My GoPro HERO3? 

First, make sure you follow the procedure I explained earlier in the article to delete files on your GoPro HERO3. However, you might still be unable to delete files on your camera for some reason.

This usually depends on the SD card you are using. For some SD cards, you might find a switch on one side with a line marked with a Lock. If the tab is in the Lock position, you cannot delete files on such an SD card.

To delete files, ensure that the switch on the SD card is in Unlock position. After doing this, deleting your files should be quick and easy.
