 About Pokémon Sword and Shield

Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield are role-playing games built by Game Freak for Nintendo. They were released in November 2019 for the Nintendo Switch console.

Pokémon Sword and Shield are the first installments in the 8th Generation of the Pokémon video game series. Additionally, they are sequels to Pokémon: Let’s Go, Pikachu! and Let’s Go, Eevee!

Pokémon Sword and Shield received two downloadable content expansion packs namely, “The Isle of Armor” and “The Crown Tundra”, released in June 2020 and October 2020, respectively.

Pokémon Sword and Shield are played from a third-person perspective. The game features a Pokémon trainer who embarks on a mission to capture creatures known as Pokémon and train them to win battles against other trainers.

Players can catch wild Pokémon during wild encounters, subdue them in combat, and catch them with Poké Balls, including them in their party.

By vanquishing opposing Pokémon creatures in turn-based fights, your Pokémon gains experience and skills, which increases levels up their abilities and increase their battle statistics. As you win more battles and fights, your Pokémon can become a more powerful creature.

Gameplay takes place in the Galar region in the United Kingdom. Galar is made of various cities and towns and has an open-world area known as “Wild Area”, which is at the region’s center.

The player fights other trainers in towns, cities, and the Wild Area. The player must travel around the Galar region to participate in the “Gym Challenge”, which is an open tournament held to determine the greatest Pokémon trainer in the Galar region.

Eight of the game’s towns and cities are home to powerful trainers known as “Gym Leaders”. These trainers specialize in certain varieties of Pokémon; however, players earn a special badge after beating a Gym Leader.

Upon defeating all eight Gym Leaders and obtaining eight badges, the players will participate in the Champion Cup, where they will face the Gym Leaders and trainers remaining from the Gym Challenge. If the player emerges victorious, he will go against Leon, the Champion of the Galar region.

Nintendo Switch supports internet connectivity, which allows players to trade and battle Pokémon with other real-life players. However, players must subscribe to Nintendo Switch Online to access this feature.

Some of the features newly introduced to Pokémon Sword Pokémon Shield are the Wild Area, cooperative raid encounters, “Gigantamaxing”, and “Dynamaxing”. Some of these features can temporarily enlarge the size of your Pokémon.
